The Science of Cues: Balancing Warmth and Competence in Male-Dominated Industries
Our brains make split-second judgments of warmth and competence that determine how we are perceived and trusted. Drawing on the research of Vanessa Van Edwards’ Cues and additional social-science insights, this session explores the subtle behavioral signals that influence credibility and connection. Participants will learn how warmth and competence cues show up in facial expressions, tone, body language, and word choice—and how these cues affect perceptions in male-dominated environments. Through relatable examples and practical reflection, leaders will discover how to calibrate their presence for different contexts, strengthen their executive presence, and communicate in ways that foster respect and collaboration.
